Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) Statement on Online Harm

The Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) has released a new position statement on a public health approach to digital platforms and online harm. This statement provides public health perspectives and recommendations premised on learnings from recent years in the prevention of violent extremism and online hate.

"The public health question is not whether digital platforms are good or bad. It is which preventable risks are created or amplified by particular platform features and commercial practices; which populations experience those risks most often or most severely; how benefits and harms are distributed; and which policy interventions can reduce risk without unnecessarily restricting access, privacy, expression or other benefits of digital participation."
